This section introduces the topic of the project, notes any information already available, and explains why you are interested in the project.
If you are going to state references in your report, this is where most of the citations are likely to be, with the actual references listed at the end of the entire report in the form of a bibliography or reference section.
Example: My project is on which type of paper towel absorbs better?
My background information would be on how paper towels work and how the different brands are made.
What I am looking for to be handed in
A rough draft of the background information you have found thus far.
I am look for you to write this in paragraph form. The question of how many paragraphs is up to you but I would think that you will need at least 3-5. Remember it is not the quantity but the quality.
With regards to putting in the references, if you are unsure of how to so this then for now please put the name of the book, website, etc, beside the paragraph where you used the information.
Remember, getting information form someone else is great but it must be in your own words!
This is due on February 9th, 2009 not February 6th.
If you are looking for a good example of how to write the background, or a science fair report in general, please see the link on my website!
