Welcome to Ms. MacIntyre's Grade 4 ClassGrade 4 class of 2009-2010 :
Parents and students can now check the homework each day and review some of the main outcomes taught that day. Just click on the grade 4 homework link! Integrating Technology Into The Curriculum Before using the computers a mini-lesson is given in the classroom using the LCD, and/or Smart Board and the teacher's desk computer. Topics may vary depending on the assignment or needs of the students. Students keep a list of the assignments given in their technology scribbler and work at their own pace. I usually roam the three rooms and help students when required. Students are expected to follow the instructions, demonstrate respect for the equipment, themselves and others and to stay on task. This year we will be using Inspiration for creating and organizing ideas, Appleworks 6.0 for word processing and mini slide shows, iPhoto for photo editing, , i Movie for creating films, Ednet for email assignments and perhaps a web design software.
Examples of Past Assignments 2009-2010 The grade 4/5 class 2008-2009 came third in the Discovery Centre Grade 5 Film contest. The film was entitled, Science Olympics: Simple Machines. The students spoke very well when they made their acceptance speech. Each student received a certificate for their efforts. It was quite the event with popcorn, pizza, juice and cake provided free of charge. Thank you to St. Mary's University for sponsoring the event. Our film looked really good up there on the big screen! The class also received a $100.00 cheque to be used for science equipment in the classroom. In April the class also won third prize for a shorter version of the film, Science Olympics : Simple Machines in the S-Video Film Festival, South Shore regional School Board. Sample Technology Assignemnts: Students were grouped into pairs and took turns taking pictures of their classmate using the digital camera. Students interviewed their classmate using a graphic organizer and transfered the information into their Writer's Notebook using sentences and paragraphs. Later, using a word processing document they will also learn to insert a photo. In the past we have used Hyperstudio software to create a classroom CD containing each students' work. This program allows students to draw, use text, include digital photos, clip art, or animinations. Students manipulate the order of each slide and can include sound to enhance the presentation. All stacks are collected and placed on a CD with buttons and hperlinks to connect to the home page. In past years students have created children's books and a Rock and Mineral CD using this program. The grade four class of 2006-2007 completed a class film project on the topic of a Nut Free School. This project involved researching the topic, writing the scripts, planning the pictures, filming, editing, collecting props, and working together to create an educational DVD film that wil be used in the future to help other students. The class won a DVD/VCR player at the South Shore Video Showcase in April for their five minute film. . Their 40 minute assembly was performed on May 31, 2007. The assembly included several educational films completed during the year, chime playing and a funny play about Hansel and Gretel in the Big Woods. In 2005-2006 during the first term, students used the digital camera, the digital camcorder and learned several software programs in order to create an imovie video of playground safety for the school. Students worked in small groups to write scripts on assorted playground safety. They filmed outside in the school yard and due to the limited time before the assembly, the teacher edited their work on the computer (13 hours!) This was an ongoing project throughout September and October. The Grade four assembly was presented on October 24th to the school community. The forty minute student presentation was very well received and the students were proud of their achievements. The assembly included a Terry Fox song and slide show of the ACES Lunenburg Terry Fox Walk held in September, two reader's theatres, one song and imovie on playground safety, and one punctuation rap. In April 2006 the grade four class won a Video Showcase Award and received a camcorder for the class.
