Facts about Learning Disabilities

Learning Disabilities affect approximately 10% of the population.

Learning Disabilities are believed to be caused by an unidentifiable or inferred central nervous system dysfunction.

There are many different types of learning disabilities, which can be mild, moderate or severe.

The majority of learning disabilities are language related.

Individuals with learning disabilities have average to above average cognitive ability.

Individuals with learning disabilities typically have marked discrepancies across skills and abilities.

Learning disabilities often co-exist with other disorders (e.g., Tourettes Syndrome, ADHD, giftedness, Social Spinal Bifida, social skills deficits.)

Learning disabilities are life long, they do not go away.
